The Spit in May
May is typically the best weather month but “typically” is becoming quite a liquid adjective. I love the sunrise/sunset dynamics. The orbital relationships are a bit more reliable than climate, so you can be sure to see this sequence on any good sunset/sunrise combination.
All winter/spring I watch the sunrise get earlier and further to the left in my field of view. Meanwhile, the sunset comes later and further to the right. By May both have moved out of my view, which is unobstructed for 180 degrees. Then this happens.
First is the sunset, as I have shown in previous post. Where the last rays hit the spit around 9:30 pm.
Then, about 8 hours later, is the sunrise.
But the really cool thing that also happens is that the first rays of sun hit only the spit.
I am easily entertained.
Good thing the weather is perfect for it.
