On To Bah Haabah

For the next leg of this trip I rented a car in Boston with a drop off in Gaithersburg, MD a week later. After a stop at Newbury Crafters, I got to Bar Harbor in time to book passage on a two hour sail around the area. The wooden hulled “schooner” was gaff rigged with steel masts and no winches; they allowed willing passengers to assist raising the sails. I watched. Lacking bow thrusters they assisted docking with a Boston Whaler that was rigged with a tug boat styled giant bumper on the bow. It was effective and helpful with the off shore breeze that developed while we were out.

I had an early dinner overlooking the bay.

Then a brief stroll before heading inland to more “reasonable” airbnb rates for the night.

I did find a scottish pub where I could get a scotch egg and some single malt while watching football (MLS).

That night I realized that I’d left my credit card behind, so the next morning I had breakfast back at the resort in Bar Harbor. Lobster benedict was becoming my favorite 2nd breakfast.

So, with credit card back in the wallet, I worked my way inland again. Along some back road I came across this old cemetery alongside the road with no signs or fencing.

Quite a bit of history on these stones. Imagine the story behind each of these markers.

At the end of that day I secured a “mansion” room at a nearby airbnb. As I pulled up I was concerned because the exterior begged for maintenance. But the interior made up for it. I had most of the top floor and a nice view from the corner table.

I had a pleasant night, no ghosts. I think.

I’ll pick up again in Poolesville. Where you’ll get to meet Cassie, a recent addition to Amy’s family.

Till then, stay safe.

About

So far I've reached acceptable proficiency at the following, in chronological order: Silversmith, infantryman/door gunner, helicopter pilot, fireman, carpenter, residential contractor, FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist and crotchety old retired guy. Currently, I'm learning to fly again and that is what this is all about. 7/7/2020 edit: As I have had the opportunity to reflect (old people do that a lot) on my actual proficiency level at the above occupations, I feel adjustments are in order. The term "acceptable" depends on the observer, their own proficiency and experience level. Acceptable to me might be woefully deficient to the master. I think it would be more accurate to claim that I have earned a living wage at all of these occupations but never got rich. Actually, I feel that I have gotten rich at the last one. I have what I need and am profoundly grateful for all of it. The future looks bright indeed, as I have learned to fly again. For that I have all of you to thank. Thank You!
