New Things

Hard to believe I’ve been on the road ten days.

Chicago was awesome! Only drawback was the heat, and I dodged the really hot days. I highly recommend the Livingston B&B. The accommodations are excellent and the rates reasonable. All I had to do was some light labor. A bit like the “good old days” at the cafe. There was demolition and even some construction.

Seriously, it was great to see Melody, Scott and the boys (Eli and Rudder). Lots of good times and dog fixes. We even went to a Cub’s game at Wrigley Field. On the way we saw this young lady sporting Mavorett’s favorite hair color “radio active carrot”. She wears it well.

There is a great bar right at the entrance where we sort of “tail gated” and people watched. We had such a good time that we watched most of the game on their big screens.

Got to meet a Cub icon “Woo Woo”.

I also did the architectural river tour. Seemed like a city of glass, I loved the reflected views.

Not all the views were relections.

Would have liked more bright cumulous clouds. But actually, the weather was perfect.

Right now I’m sitting on Amtrak train 448 just passing through Rochester, NY on the way to Boston where I’ll be starting the “Lobster” portion of the tour.

The Amtrak trip is the first of what I hope will be many. I could get used to this, listening to NPR while posting to the site. I’m toying with the idea of Amtrak for the DC to PDX portion of this trip.

Stay cool and safe and I’ll let you know how it goes.

About

So far I've reached acceptable proficiency at the following, in chronological order: Silversmith, infantryman/door gunner, helicopter pilot, fireman, carpenter, residential contractor, FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist and crotchety old retired guy. Currently, I'm learning to fly again and that is what this is all about. 7/7/2020 edit: As I have had the opportunity to reflect (old people do that a lot) on my actual proficiency level at the above occupations, I feel adjustments are in order. The term "acceptable" depends on the observer, their own proficiency and experience level. Acceptable to me might be woefully deficient to the master. I think it would be more accurate to claim that I have earned a living wage at all of these occupations but never got rich. Actually, I feel that I have gotten rich at the last one. I have what I need and am profoundly grateful for all of it. The future looks bright indeed, as I have learned to fly again. For that I have all of you to thank. Thank You!
