Homer Loves Visitors
Not all of our visitors are here for the scenery, hunting, fishing or adventure. Some of our favorites come to breed. Some in this category are human but most are birds or fish. And so far, they haven’t brought any Covid19 with them. Can’t say that of the human visitors.
My favorite by far are the birds, especially the Sandhill cranes.
They are not only beautiful birds. Their language is unique and complicated. Their mating rituals are more than complicated and even copied by other species. Mostly humans. It is depicted here on the end of the carport at our new police station.
The city of Homer has lots of Sandhill art. Here’s the rest of the new police station.
Is a green development, of course.
Here’s some closer views.
Right across the street is the library, with some more Sandhill art. The front door is a bit cluttered with notices right now.
Just up the street, next to the fire station, there is a small park with public bathrooms.
We do have some fish art. It is true art, stimulating to some and annoying to others. I like it.
While not on display, I have to include some bear and fish art. This one won first prize in a past Homer
Chamber of Commerce photo contest.
Got to take the dog for a romp in the best dog park in the world. Someone has to, might as well be me. The weather is perfect for it.
Stay safe.
Nice art and it is interesting that the Sand Hills Cranes mate up in your area. As I mentioned Carolyn and I spend a couple of months each winter down in Sebring FL doing Habitat for Humanity and that is where some of them spend the winter. They’ll often fly over the build site (sand hills) and land close by.
BTW, I don’t know if it is an aviator thing or not, but it seems like we have a similar sense of humor.
