Finally, Spring

First, I must apologize for the long hiatus. Rehab is coming along nicely and I hope to be able to fish by the end of July.

Spring lasts for a very short time here. We transition from winter white to the Summer frenzy in a few weeks. One day you notice that the roads have gone crazy with frost heaves. Then the snow melts and we get to see a winters collection of broken cars and dog crap.

Here’s one that emerged from a snow bank. The sign is new and reads “Needs Windshield Washer Fluid”; the previous one read “Needs Front End Work”. There will probably be a new one soon.

Before long the grass gets growing and it seems like you are two weeks behind keeping up with landscaping chores. When the spit Lupines reach prime you know that Summer is here and you need to be fishing.

There are many boats here that will never float again. These three have graced this front yard for quite a while. I think they are beautiful. Think of the stories they could tell.

This one is my favorite of the three. Note the radar reflector, I’d like to think that prevented her being rammed by an oil tanker.

I think Kiska has aged rather gracefully.

This lady sports no name but no less character.

If time travel ever were offered to me, I’d love to see these Ladies when they were working to feed many families.

But Summer is finally here (we broke 70 the other day). The Wild Honey staff celebrated Melody’s birthday with dinner at Finn’s pizza and a toast at the Salty Dog.

I love hanging out with this crew; it’s a good gig, if you can get it.

Hope all Y’all are having a great summer. The weather is perfect for it!

About

So far I've reached acceptable proficiency at the following, in chronological order: Silversmith, infantryman/door gunner, helicopter pilot, fireman, carpenter, residential contractor, FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist and crotchety old retired guy. Currently, I'm learning to fly again and that is what this is all about. 7/7/2020 edit: As I have had the opportunity to reflect (old people do that a lot) on my actual proficiency level at the above occupations, I feel adjustments are in order. The term "acceptable" depends on the observer, their own proficiency and experience level. Acceptable to me might be woefully deficient to the master. I think it would be more accurate to claim that I have earned a living wage at all of these occupations but never got rich. Actually, I feel that I have gotten rich at the last one. I have what I need and am profoundly grateful for all of it. The future looks bright indeed, as I have learned to fly again. For that I have all of you to thank. Thank You!
