Sunday

It’s a magical Sunday here in the frozen north. I was planning to stay in all day. With 4 EPL games on the DVR, a light morning snow falling and a good book that I am just getting into, I couldn’t imagine a good reason to go out.

So, with the cat running all over the apartment like someone had tied fire crackers to her tail, I settled in to a morning of Meet The Press followed by football.

Just before noon, the sun came out and I needed to get out. So, I left Madonna to explore every inch of the apartment,

and headed out to find a scenic place to eat lunch.Beluga lake had a thin fog just burning off. The tracks are from a one dog sled that a Dad on skates had used to pull his daughter around the lake.  This was it looked like two days ago with a thin layer of rain water on top of about 6″ of ice.

I continued out onto the spit to see the extent of the cloud cover.

There was almost no wind and just several low stratus layers over the mountains. There was even a sailboat out in the back bay.

I didn’t notice the UFO over the mountains.

So I splurged and had “brunch” at Land’s End. I try not to pass up the opportunity to get their crab and artichoke omelet. On the way back I saw this guy flying his wind surfing kite in the mild breeze that was developing out of the North.

Turns out, his “kite” was not designed to ever enter the water. This is a parachute used to launch off mountains or other tall vantage point. He was just practicing to keep his skills up during Winter.

I thought that since I was out, I really should visit my favorite photo op site up on the ridge. By the time I got up here, the fog had totally burned off Beluga lake (just below and to the right of the airport runway).

Must have been very localized snow. Just over my apartment. Don’t see anything in the trees.

Back home now. Enough excitement for one day and I want to see how the psycho cat is doing. Managing, I see.

She seems to be recovering nicely. Think I’ll treat myself to fresh coffee and a brownie.

Stay warm, I hear it is cold out there.

About

So far I've reached acceptable proficiency at the following, in chronological order: Silversmith, infantryman/door gunner, helicopter pilot, fireman, carpenter, residential contractor, FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist and crotchety old retired guy. Currently, I'm learning to fly again and that is what this is all about. 7/7/2020 edit: As I have had the opportunity to reflect (old people do that a lot) on my actual proficiency level at the above occupations, I feel adjustments are in order. The term "acceptable" depends on the observer, their own proficiency and experience level. Acceptable to me might be woefully deficient to the master. I think it would be more accurate to claim that I have earned a living wage at all of these occupations but never got rich. Actually, I feel that I have gotten rich at the last one. I have what I need and am profoundly grateful for all of it. The future looks bright indeed, as I have learned to fly again. For that I have all of you to thank. Thank You!
