Back In Portland

Been away for a few months. Grandkids haven’t stopped growing. Louis is working on his mustache.

And he got a haircut.

Nina went to the first day of third grade today.

Also sporting a new haircut and snow leopard; she looks ready for the third grade.

Still love Portland’s trees. This one, between sidewalk and curb, has had some scrapes from trucks parking tight to the curb.

Went to watch the Timbers blow out the evil empire (that’s the Seattle Sounders). By now I’m sure you have all watched the game, so I’m not worried about spoilers.

Ran into some Timber supporters from Alaska last year at a game in Denver and we traded scarves. Now it’s my favorite.

Made a new best friend when I gave her 1/2 of a chocolate donut (with her mom’s permission, of course).

Meanwhile…….

Working on a new shower curtain rod in their newly remodeled bathroom, I’m working on a new set of criteria before I accept new projects. First, and most important, can I do it without causing any harm?  I’m never sure on that one, but I usually don’t let it bother me. The challenge here is to hang it without drilling into the new tile job. Watch this space.

Weather should be perfect for it.

About

So far I've reached acceptable proficiency at the following, in chronological order: Silversmith, infantryman/door gunner, helicopter pilot, fireman, carpenter, residential contractor, FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist and crotchety old retired guy. Currently, I'm learning to fly again and that is what this is all about. 7/7/2020 edit: As I have had the opportunity to reflect (old people do that a lot) on my actual proficiency level at the above occupations, I feel adjustments are in order. The term "acceptable" depends on the observer, their own proficiency and experience level. Acceptable to me might be woefully deficient to the master. I think it would be more accurate to claim that I have earned a living wage at all of these occupations but never got rich. Actually, I feel that I have gotten rich at the last one. I have what I need and am profoundly grateful for all of it. The future looks bright indeed, as I have learned to fly again. For that I have all of you to thank. Thank You!
