Time To Go, Again

Not a lot of news. We’ve finally got a court date. August 25th. Only took a little over a year as I’ve officially been homeless since June 1, 2015.

Thanks again to all those who kept me afloat for that year.

Going to leave Bend for Alaska on the 15th of June and be back around the 7th of August with a bunch of fish this time. Been getting the trailer ready to convert to a reefer trailer for the trip back. Should be interesting.

The Deschutes river got a facelift just downstream of the Old Mill district.

The channel on the left is the mildest ride. The channel on the right has a standing wave at the runout where the surfers can literally just step off a rock and be surfing, most don’t last but a few seconds. Most seem to be unable to stay in the wave. I think the older, longer boards could do better. Somehow, I don’t think I’ll be showing them how any time soon. Perhaps I could have 50 years ago. Further right is the fish only channel. I’m sure the fish can read the signs.

Emil and Sara have taken the plunge into home ownership. A nice little fixer upper just south of Pilot Butte. Might have some photos later. They had the rare luxury of a few days between closing and move in, so Emil took advantage of the time to remove most of the drywall in the living room and kitchen, including the ceiling.

Of course it was during the first good heat wave. So much fun pulling down sheet rock with blown in fiberglass insulation above. We got visqueen up on the ceiling so you can breathe but there is a bit of structural, electrical and plumbing work needed before it will be ready for drywall again.

Watch this space.

In the final week countdown before the week long road trip. I’ll try to post along the way.

Weather should be perfect up to and during the trip. What else?

About

So far I've reached acceptable proficiency at the following, in chronological order: Silversmith, infantryman/door gunner, helicopter pilot, fireman, carpenter, residential contractor, FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist and crotchety old retired guy. Currently, I'm learning to fly again and that is what this is all about. 7/7/2020 edit: As I have had the opportunity to reflect (old people do that a lot) on my actual proficiency level at the above occupations, I feel adjustments are in order. The term "acceptable" depends on the observer, their own proficiency and experience level. Acceptable to me might be woefully deficient to the master. I think it would be more accurate to claim that I have earned a living wage at all of these occupations but never got rich. Actually, I feel that I have gotten rich at the last one. I have what I need and am profoundly grateful for all of it. The future looks bright indeed, as I have learned to fly again. For that I have all of you to thank. Thank You!
