Time to Breathe
Red run was really weird this year. The usual battles continue with all stakeholders convinced the others are stealing all the fish.
The sonar counts are not trusted by most of the interested parties but even if they are off the trends are easy to see. The only thing we are sure of is that it has been much harder to catch fish than you would expect if the numbers they say are in the river were accurate.
I have enough reds but would always welcome more. Today is my last red fishing day if I am going to smoke any more. Meanwhile, the state is slowly trying to figure out how to regulate cannabis here.
This sign in front of the old “One Stop” gas station/convenience store on the highway between Soldotna and Kenai indicates some think regs will be in place soon.
Hope so, this place needs to mellow out a bit.
Weather has been perfect for fishing. Light rain and mild temps. On to Homer as soon as my rig drys out. Hopefully, this is not one of those years where it rains until it turns to snow. I need to be on the road back to Oregon by the end of the first week in August.
Side note:
I’m looking for housing in Bend for mid August until at least the end of September. Rooms for rent, house sitting and caretaker positions will be considered. I hope to commit to a more permanent arrangement by October.
Stay cool out there.
