The Perfect St Patty’s Day Brunch
I know I haven’t been in touch too often lately but things are picking up as I near departure on April fools day.
Two years ago I decided to paint the beard for St Patrick’s’ day.
Goes well with the Timbers jersey, don’t you think.
Since the Timbers play tomorrow and I’m in town for the game; I thought I’d try it again. Gary, in his alter ego Timber Santa, had set up his tent Wednesday at 5:30 am to be first in line for the Saturday night game. So I invited him to assist me in my search for the perfect St Patty’s Day brunch, good Irish whiskey and scotch eggs. Note to self: Not everyone has the same idea of the perfect St Patty’s Day brunch.
Anyway, after a hardy cronut breakfast we set out to check out the local pubs.
Due to some past trimming, the beard hasn’t returned to it’s previous fullness. But whatever, Gary and I decided to look for a Portland pub with that perfect St Patty’s Day brunch.
The whiskey was no problem but due to elaborate celebrations going on at most of the Irish pubs, their menus were limited to lots of corned beef items and Irish stew. So we drank some goooooooood Irish whiskey, watched Irish dancers and settled for hamburgers afterwards.
I’ll look for the scotch eggs tomorrow.
PS: If you are not familiar with cronuts, they are croissants cooked as a donut and heavily glazed. A speciality of Joe’s Donuts in Sandy, Oregon: stop in sometime and tell them Pig sent you.
Stay warm.
