Still Here
Getting inquiries about my whereabouts and activities, so here’s a quick update.
Finally got a good snow in Bend. That is The Three Sisters in the center and Mt Batchelor far left.
Some friends sent me a reminder of Christmases past.
Had Christmas eve breakfast with a bunch of very questionable Santas.
The one in the middle is our beloved weekly waitress, Jasmine.
Then it was off to Homer for the New Years festivities. Of course there were fireworks.
I learned that sparklers work well when buried in the snow.
We spent our early mornings grooming the local ski trails.
Above is the parking lot with the Kenai mountains in the background. Below are a few of the trails before expert grooming. The complex is less than a quarter of a mile from the Worsfold Ski Chalet.
We would start grooming in the dark around 8:00 AM and finish just before dawn. Sorry, no sunrise photos but they were gorgeous. The ski club runs the show with volunteers. Their website displays GPS tracking info of the grooming machines progress. Here is a link to their site, http://kachemaknordicskiclub.org/trails/
They have a nice map on the home page ( the Worsfold’s house is near the “L” on the “Lookout Trails” link in the middle of the map. Click the “Real Time Grooming Report” above the map to see when the trails were last groomed. They are currently the only trail system in Alaska using this system. Here’s the afore mentioned map on the home page.
I was in Homer for just under a week and the skies were clear every day while the temps were higher than in Bend. Perfect Weather!
Meanwhile, back in Bend…….
Inside the Pilot Butte Drive In Cafe a few hours ago. That’s snow outside, AGAIN. Should get about a foot out of this one. Everyone is whining, NOT PERFECT!
So, back at the farm, this is my landlady who loves to cook. Since I love to eat, it is working out well.
Once the dog, Milo, learned he could get up on the couches, it was all over.
We will be awaiting the end of the current perfect weather snowfall; hopefully then we’ll get enough of a break to dig out.
Stay warm.
