Hawthorne Revisited

Back in Portland for another Timbers game. Louis and I took the opportunity to check out the sewer construction underway on Hawthorne.

Luckily, it is only a short walk for us.

They are replacing the main sewer line and it looks like most of the service lines to individual businesses.

The steel plates cover up the cuts for the service lines. One way traffic is flagged through 24/7.

Meanwhile, Louis got to inspect a little excavator.

It required a thorough exam.

Only very slight defects were noted, so this machine was pronounced fit for service.

Then it was back home as Nina wanted to give me a “Revolutionary” look. She is into Alexander Hamilton right now.

I think she nailed it! She wanted to braid the beard but it is still too short. I was instructed to let it grow.

I was entrusted with braiding duties or the first time.

Not too bad if I do say so myself.

Friday morning we put up the tent at the Timbers game to get in line for a wristband with a number for getting in line on game day. Don’t ask.

The time stamp on this photo reads around 5:30 AM Friday morning. Gary brings the tent and stays over night Friday and Saturday. We all show up again Sunday morning to get our wristbands. There is about 30 people in the group. I help with setup when I can and provide donuts every now and then.

Might rain today but weather should be perfect by game time.

About

So far I've reached acceptable proficiency at the following, in chronological order: Silversmith, infantryman/door gunner, helicopter pilot, fireman, carpenter, residential contractor, FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist and crotchety old retired guy. Currently, I'm learning to fly again and that is what this is all about. 7/7/2020 edit: As I have had the opportunity to reflect (old people do that a lot) on my actual proficiency level at the above occupations, I feel adjustments are in order. The term "acceptable" depends on the observer, their own proficiency and experience level. Acceptable to me might be woefully deficient to the master. I think it would be more accurate to claim that I have earned a living wage at all of these occupations but never got rich. Actually, I feel that I have gotten rich at the last one. I have what I need and am profoundly grateful for all of it. The future looks bright indeed, as I have learned to fly again. For that I have all of you to thank. Thank You!
