Haven’t Lost The Touch

Went fishing Tuesday. I really didn’t think I’d get motivated enough this year so when I heard that Jim Hill, a long time friend of the Teagues (the old ones) was going to be in town and might like to go, I thought it might be a good reason to get off my ass and get back in the game.

We went to Wikiup Reservoir. It is south and upstream of Bend and dams a portion of the Deschutes River. This is what it normally looks like.

Right now it is very low and is all river and no lake. Here is where we were fishing.

We couldn’t wade very far out but at least there were no bushes to mess up the back cast. We both had brief hook ups and finally landed nice fish.

Mine was a nice Rainbow.

Jim’s was a slightly bigger Brown.

The battle was long and he just refused to enter the net, so he beached him.

Both got released to fight again another day.

In Portland for another Timbers game. Our scarf lady, Heidi, got to hoist one of the slabs cut to celebrate a goal. Each goal gets a slab which goes to the player scoring the goal an if the other team doesn’t score, the goal keeper gets a slab for the “clean sheet”.

Weather was perfect for soccer (rained all day).

About

So far I've reached acceptable proficiency at the following, in chronological order: Silversmith, infantryman/door gunner, helicopter pilot, fireman, carpenter, residential contractor, FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist and crotchety old retired guy. Currently, I'm learning to fly again and that is what this is all about. 7/7/2020 edit: As I have had the opportunity to reflect (old people do that a lot) on my actual proficiency level at the above occupations, I feel adjustments are in order. The term "acceptable" depends on the observer, their own proficiency and experience level. Acceptable to me might be woefully deficient to the master. I think it would be more accurate to claim that I have earned a living wage at all of these occupations but never got rich. Actually, I feel that I have gotten rich at the last one. I have what I need and am profoundly grateful for all of it. The future looks bright indeed, as I have learned to fly again. For that I have all of you to thank. Thank You!
