Coping

That’s what we are good at.

I’ve recently begun contract services as a delivery agent for the Wild Honey Bistro. The bistro takes the order, collects payment w/tips included and hands me a bag containing the order with address, phone # and customers name on the outside. I merely place the order on the doorstep, ring the doorbell or call to announce and step back to give them plenty of space as they take delivery. I’m masked and gloved an sanitize after every delivery.

If you want your own 1st Cav bandana, contact the Crossed Sabers Gift shop at Ft Hood. Here is their web site: https://shop.1cda.org/ . You’ll have to get your own mermaid.

Over the last few years I’ve met some awesome people who have filled in behind us at the 1st Cav Division. I finally bought my 1st Cav stetson and joined the 1st Cav Association.

They still have a real calvary unit at Ft Hood. These guys make their own boots and saddles, preform at rodeos and ride in parades. It is a must visit if you ever get to Ft Hood.

Meanwhile, back at the Cafe. Social distancing and quarantines have the unintended consequences of more wild life on the streets. Moose will be calving soon and we have been seeing some new creatures as well.

Eli was having none of this. He absolutely would not let Rex up on the board walk until we distracted him with bacon and his favorite piece of driftwood.

The spring tides have been spectacular, this one was a minus 6’+. Everyone was out enjoying the space to run, the fantastic tide pooling and opportunity to get out and still stay 6′ from everybody else.

We are finally getting daily rains and the forecast calls for continued night time lows above freezing. So, soon we’ll be awash with Sandhills, shorebirds and mother moose with calves.

I predict the weather will remain perfect.

Stay safe.

About

So far I've reached acceptable proficiency at the following, in chronological order: Silversmith, infantryman/door gunner, helicopter pilot, fireman, carpenter, residential contractor, FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist and crotchety old retired guy. Currently, I'm learning to fly again and that is what this is all about. 7/7/2020 edit: As I have had the opportunity to reflect (old people do that a lot) on my actual proficiency level at the above occupations, I feel adjustments are in order. The term "acceptable" depends on the observer, their own proficiency and experience level. Acceptable to me might be woefully deficient to the master. I think it would be more accurate to claim that I have earned a living wage at all of these occupations but never got rich. Actually, I feel that I have gotten rich at the last one. I have what I need and am profoundly grateful for all of it. The future looks bright indeed, as I have learned to fly again. For that I have all of you to thank. Thank You!

  1. Hey! The 1st Cav bandana, really. I have an assortment of cross cannons that I could have sent you. Take care, be careful, and stay safe.

  2. Sounds like a great system. Hope it keeps your kitchen going throughout this pandemic!
You have so much beauty in the nature/geography around you to keep uplifted and entertained. Can’t wait for the Mama Moose and their Mooseketeers photos. 👍🏻
