Clean Coal

We had a weird tide the other day. It cut a new small bank in the beach and turned loose a bunch of coal, petrified wood and our own form of seaweed circles. I see the hand of his holiness (The FSM) at work here.

Eli would prefer to chase the ball, but he’ll put up with brief interruptions as long as we don’t forget that what we are here for is to throw and chase de ball.

Yes, we have clean coal…… You should see our coal, it’s the cleanest coal there is…….

Excuse me please, for a moment there I…..dot dot dot dot dot it is probably too much MSNBC and Colbert.

Meanwhile…

The storm also moved around lots of seaweed.

This one below was intact from the anchor (recently ripped from it’s rock) to the float. I paced it off;

45 feet.

The large logs held firm this time.

Meanwhile…

As my neighbor left last month for a trip through Europe he said, “We’ll be back Nov 3rd and by the way, prepare to get inundated by the trick-or-treaters.” Then, the day before, the city announces that we are one of the two streets that are blocked off during trick-or-treating to protect the little ones.

Then a huge bag of candy shows up on all our doorsteps. A local realtor collects candy all year long and distributes it to all the residences on the two streets.

Bill and Shellie wanted to get in costume and pass out candy so we collected some more candy and prepared for the onslaught.

Just the beginning. It soon got too busy for photography.

Bill was Dracula but always wanted to be a pirate. But I don’t think he quite gets the eye patch thing.

They went on long after dark but all were well behaved and some were adorable. Next year we’ll be prepared and get some shots of the little ghosts & goblins.

The cafe is closed until Thanksgiving but I have plenty of work.

Watch this space.

About

So far I've reached acceptable proficiency at the following, in chronological order: Silversmith, infantryman/door gunner, helicopter pilot, fireman, carpenter, residential contractor, FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist and crotchety old retired guy. Currently, I'm learning to fly again and that is what this is all about. 7/7/2020 edit: As I have had the opportunity to reflect (old people do that a lot) on my actual proficiency level at the above occupations, I feel adjustments are in order. The term "acceptable" depends on the observer, their own proficiency and experience level. Acceptable to me might be woefully deficient to the master. I think it would be more accurate to claim that I have earned a living wage at all of these occupations but never got rich. Actually, I feel that I have gotten rich at the last one. I have what I need and am profoundly grateful for all of it. The future looks bright indeed, as I have learned to fly again. For that I have all of you to thank. Thank You!
