Beautiful Downtown Blue Eye

So, thought I’d show you some of the local flavor here. Blue Eye sits on the shore of Table Rock lake. It is the headwaters of the White River that flows through Arkansas to the Mississippi. Here is the dam from the tailwater area above the next lake in the system (Tany Como).

The lake is not above normal; they are letting water out from the top of the lake to help oxygenate the river below.

The result was about five feet deeper water where we usually fish. You would only be able to fish by boat.

The bank shows evidence of the water being even higher in the past.

The Landing in Branson is a few river miles downstream on Lake Tany Como. It is a tourist mall with a few hotels and a huge Bass Pro Shop anchoring one end. Two weeks before Thanksgiving and the Christmas decorations were already going up.

The stags are seasonal and used to be anatomically accurate until the locals protested. It would just be too traumatic to expose the children to such accuracy.

Meanwhile, back in Blue Eye

Sorry for the poor quality but it says that Blue Eye is home to “Morningside, The Home of the Jim Baker Show”.

He has a residential development, complete with apartments, large home sites and a mini mall. As well as a TV studio.

But that is not Blue Eye’s only claim to fame. There is a great hamburger joint. Blue Eye Burgers.

Roger and Claire live in a nice little development of mostly lakeside homes one one of the many peninsulas in Table Rock Lake. This is the house on the tip of the peninsula. It is the only one with a long gated drive.

This is a house close to theirs, on the corner of Lakeshore and Rye.

The little white crosses used to be much more prevalent around the neighborhood. This is not the place to display your FSM and NPR bumper stickers. Here is a link to some interesting images that will give you an idea: He boiled

We’ve had three inches of “perfect weather” since Thanksgiving but it remains above freezing.

About

So far I've reached acceptable proficiency at the following, in chronological order: Silversmith, infantryman/door gunner, helicopter pilot, fireman, carpenter, residential contractor, FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist and crotchety old retired guy. Currently, I'm learning to fly again and that is what this is all about. 7/7/2020 edit: As I have had the opportunity to reflect (old people do that a lot) on my actual proficiency level at the above occupations, I feel adjustments are in order. The term "acceptable" depends on the observer, their own proficiency and experience level. Acceptable to me might be woefully deficient to the master. I think it would be more accurate to claim that I have earned a living wage at all of these occupations but never got rich. Actually, I feel that I have gotten rich at the last one. I have what I need and am profoundly grateful for all of it. The future looks bright indeed, as I have learned to fly again. For that I have all of you to thank. Thank You!
