Almost Through Canada

I am done fishing and stopped for one last bowl of clam chowder at Captain Pattie’s on the spit. This is the view from their deck. Bill & Shellie were taking some friends on a boat ride to the area in the photo below.

They are somewhere around the small island in center photo. I texted this photo to Bill and mentioned the rain squall to the right that was about to hit. Not to worry, his boat handles rain well.

Friday morning. Everything packed, including the full freezer in the car now unplugged from the shed, and ready to go. The trailer gets dropped off in Soldotna at the RV park, then have coffee with Tony and it is off to Tok. There was a quick stop at the Moose is Loose for traveling snacks and Freddy’s for dry ice.

Stopped along the way (actually 3.5 miles out of the way) to make sure the Reds made it to Moose Pass.

After Tok next stop for the night was Watson Lake. Today I made it to Dawson Creek. It was flooded when I came up; looked fine now. This was one of the rivers in the area. Notice the tree deposited on the top of the rock island. You can see how high the water was, from 20 to 30 feet higher than now.

That’s 1800 miles in two “sleeps”. Tomorrow I hope to get across the border.

Weather has been perfect, light rain to keep down the dust. Did pick up two nasty rock dings in the windshield. If that is all the damage for the trip, I’ll be thrilled.

About

So far I've reached acceptable proficiency at the following, in chronological order: Silversmith, infantryman/door gunner, helicopter pilot, fireman, carpenter, residential contractor, FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist and crotchety old retired guy. Currently, I'm learning to fly again and that is what this is all about. 7/7/2020 edit: As I have had the opportunity to reflect (old people do that a lot) on my actual proficiency level at the above occupations, I feel adjustments are in order. The term "acceptable" depends on the observer, their own proficiency and experience level. Acceptable to me might be woefully deficient to the master. I think it would be more accurate to claim that I have earned a living wage at all of these occupations but never got rich. Actually, I feel that I have gotten rich at the last one. I have what I need and am profoundly grateful for all of it. The future looks bright indeed, as I have learned to fly again. For that I have all of you to thank. Thank You!
