Water Update 1/14

Water levels remain high and steady here on the lake.

There is still a heavy release from Table Rock Dam but the same must be true for the dam and watershed upstream from our lake, keeping our level high.

Just below the dam you can see how high it was.

The water was just starting to float this tree. You can see how it washed away the dirt from the bottom half of the root ball.

There was some serious erosion as the high water scoured the banks.

These are the steps we usually use to access  the river for bank fishing. The water would have been over my head if I was able to stand at this spot during the high water. When it is at the bottom step (out of sight now, about four steps down) it is still too high for good bank fishing.

Remember this shot in a previous post? The water was a few feet above the bottom of the billboard at the lodge.

There are boats out fishing on the river and Lake Tanycomo further downstream, so it is navigable but I can’t imagine the fishing being too good. I’ve heard that some of the parks downstream at Bull Shoals will be under water until summer.

Weather is clear, windy and in the high50s. Perfect!

Stay warm. Winter is coming.

About

So far I've reached acceptable proficiency at the following, in chronological order: Silversmith, infantryman/door gunner, helicopter pilot, fireman, carpenter, residential contractor, FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist and crotchety old retired guy. Currently, I'm learning to fly again and that is what this is all about. 7/7/2020 edit: As I have had the opportunity to reflect (old people do that a lot) on my actual proficiency level at the above occupations, I feel adjustments are in order. The term "acceptable" depends on the observer, their own proficiency and experience level. Acceptable to me might be woefully deficient to the master. I think it would be more accurate to claim that I have earned a living wage at all of these occupations but never got rich. Actually, I feel that I have gotten rich at the last one. I have what I need and am profoundly grateful for all of it. The future looks bright indeed, as I have learned to fly again. For that I have all of you to thank. Thank You!
