Last Week In The Confederacy

I’ll miss the “Southern Heritage” store on Main Street in Branson. Complete with a well known icon out front.

And the Statue of Liberty next door.

And the convenient Pizza Hut dock in Shell Knob on Table Rock Lake.

There remains a trip through Texas, so I’m not out of the woods yet.

A week till launch, all the Spring clean up (at least all I’m going to do) is done, so all I have to do is pack everything for another month on the road. May will hopefully find me back in Bend looking for permanent digs.

Realistically, I won’t be able to commit to a new domicile until I get back from this Summer’s trip to Alaska, somewhere around September. But I’ll be looking for a place in both Alaska and Bend.

Spent some time checking out the Table Rock Lodge. It’s the project of the founder of Bass Pro Shops and is quite a resort. Lots of trails around the cabins, restaurants and springs that run through it.

There is a great Amish bridge over a pool that has no surface outlet.

That’s a waterfall on the left.IMG_2143

This is the view from the bridge  down to the lake where the water ends up.

Quite a place in the woods. I didn’t inquire as to the price of accommodations.

Weather not perfect today but forecasted perfect tomorrow.

See you down the road.

About

So far I've reached acceptable proficiency at the following, in chronological order: Silversmith, infantryman/door gunner, helicopter pilot, fireman, carpenter, residential contractor, FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist and crotchety old retired guy. Currently, I'm learning to fly again and that is what this is all about. 7/7/2020 edit: As I have had the opportunity to reflect (old people do that a lot) on my actual proficiency level at the above occupations, I feel adjustments are in order. The term "acceptable" depends on the observer, their own proficiency and experience level. Acceptable to me might be woefully deficient to the master. I think it would be more accurate to claim that I have earned a living wage at all of these occupations but never got rich. Actually, I feel that I have gotten rich at the last one. I have what I need and am profoundly grateful for all of it. The future looks bright indeed, as I have learned to fly again. For that I have all of you to thank. Thank You!

  1. Pretty impressive stuff from a demented Vietnam Vet Taft High grad. Glad to see somebody from the class of ’64 learned something
