Getting Er Dun in Austin

Been raining a lot but we aren’t letting that stop the festivities.

The Goose, Vik and I setting out for some serious window shopping.

Goose needs a “mid-life crisis car”. Though, we all agree, he is neither still in mid-life or crisis. Vik and I agree that he needs this car. A Mustang GT 350, Roush edition with 670 HP.

This is the one we rode in for a test drive; a much more modest GT 350 with much less HP, but more that enough. That car has one mean looking front end.

There is some serious shit going on under the Roush edition hood.

The salesman had me start it up in the showroom to demonstrate the tuned exhaust. You have a selector on the console to dial in whatever degree of macho you need in exhaust sounds. This baby is serious competition for my two favorites, the Cummings diesel and a Harley. By the time I shut it down every customer in the showroom was drooling over this baby.

Later that day we tried to get in a AAA baseball game. The rain didn’t stop the game, but it kept driving us out of our seats.

We weren’t die hard fans so we left after the 5th inning with the Round Rock Express behind 5-0.

The Goose met a new flying buddy. Duck duck Goose.

We had a Late lunch the next day with some remarkable friends that I hope to tell you all about after I get to Denver. I leave tomorrow, so look for it soon.

Meanwhile, remember this helpful warning.

About

So far I've reached acceptable proficiency at the following, in chronological order: Silversmith, infantryman/door gunner, helicopter pilot, fireman, carpenter, residential contractor, FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist and crotchety old retired guy. Currently, I'm learning to fly again and that is what this is all about. 7/7/2020 edit: As I have had the opportunity to reflect (old people do that a lot) on my actual proficiency level at the above occupations, I feel adjustments are in order. The term "acceptable" depends on the observer, their own proficiency and experience level. Acceptable to me might be woefully deficient to the master. I think it would be more accurate to claim that I have earned a living wage at all of these occupations but never got rich. Actually, I feel that I have gotten rich at the last one. I have what I need and am profoundly grateful for all of it. The future looks bright indeed, as I have learned to fly again. For that I have all of you to thank. Thank You!
