CRUISE CONTROL

Have you ever gotten two traffic tickets in less than an hour? For the same exact violation? On the same road (50 miles apart)? In Alaska? As Han would say,”It’s not my fault”.

You see, my car was made last century and doesn’t have cruise control. So it is not my fault that my foot and my car are most comfortable at 64 mph. I am now thinking that an after market cruise control would be economically wise. Or, I could just work on my instrument cross check.

Oh well, it is just money; soon I’ll be rid of all that extra money and I can settle down to the post stimulus phase of retirement. Otherwise known as life at the senior home.

Meanwhile, (as Colbert would say) I am moving.

Not out of Homer, just up the street a little. In one week I’m set to close on the purchase of a condominium with a decent view and still close in t0 town. All boxes are checked, i’s crossed and t’s dotted.

I’m setting up the boys high school soccer team to provide the muscle. That’s mainly because it is a three story walkup and if I recruited the old guys I know, it would probably kill them. If you hear a story about the old geezer that finally bought the perfect home with a view, only to die of a heart attack on the day he moves in…….

I plan to last until I run out of money or can’t make it up the stairs any more. Or about five years, whichever comes first.

Here is a link to Zillow for the property last year. I looked at it then, but since the property HOA isn’t listed with the VA, I couldn’t get a VA loan. My realtor arranged a one time listing for me this year as it wasn’t listed but she knew that I was still interested.

If you want to look it up the address is:  152 Mountain View Ave #4 (viewed from the street, it is on the upper left).

The current schedule gives me a little more than a week to get moved and settle in the cat before I head out on the reunion tour. No pressure, I’ve been packing for two weeks and I think I’ll make it.

Looks like the weather will be perfect.

About

So far I've reached acceptable proficiency at the following, in chronological order: Silversmith, infantryman/door gunner, helicopter pilot, fireman, carpenter, residential contractor, FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist and crotchety old retired guy. Currently, I'm learning to fly again and that is what this is all about. 7/7/2020 edit: As I have had the opportunity to reflect (old people do that a lot) on my actual proficiency level at the above occupations, I feel adjustments are in order. The term "acceptable" depends on the observer, their own proficiency and experience level. Acceptable to me might be woefully deficient to the master. I think it would be more accurate to claim that I have earned a living wage at all of these occupations but never got rich. Actually, I feel that I have gotten rich at the last one. I have what I need and am profoundly grateful for all of it. The future looks bright indeed, as I have learned to fly again. For that I have all of you to thank. Thank You!
